Content Marketing; History

The marketing method which involves media sharing and creation of publishing content for bringing the customers is known as Content Marketing. This format includes many ways for presenting its information to the searchers such as videos, questions and answer articles, infographics, e-books, news, white papers, case studies, photos and how-to guides etc. So these are some ways for marketing the contents.

Content marketing emphases solely on the communication with the customers and views. However it does not focus spelling. Effective and successful content marketing depends on providing reliable, high grade content which resolves the problems  and difficulties of people.

Some examples have been given below which shows the early usage of content to publicize the information related to a brand and due to which the reputation of a brand has been build:

  • In 1981: a product Backin was sold by August Oetkerin small packages. It was backingpowder, some recipes have been written at the back of these packages. He started to publish his cookbook in 1911 very successfully. Over past 100 years it went through major improvements and became very popular cookbook all over the world. It reaches more than 19 million printed copies. The Oetker Company had created all the recipes that has origin from their test kitchen. Oetker was conscious about the requirements for good marketing and practical marketing communication.
  • In 1895: a magazine named The Furrow had been launched by John Deere. It gives ideas and information to farmers by what means to turn out to be more profitable. The magazine is publishing till now and reaches to 1.5 million people in 40 different countries.
  • In 1904: there was a salesmen named Jell-O, who went door-to-door and distribute his cookbook free of cost. He advertises the pudding  as a versatile food and the company saw that in 1906 its sales increases to about $1 million.

The phrase ‘content marketing’ was first used in 1996 by John F. Oppedahl headed a forum for reporters at the American Society for Newspaper Editors. In content marketing, content has been made to offer the consumers with the information they search for.
